[Interview] George Reefah

We did an interview with new artist George Reefah. All I have to say is that I see him becoming a big artist. I'll let George tell you all about his self.

KWJ:
George, tell us about yourself? Let the people know who you are?

George: Aight, 4sho...Im a Hip Hop Writer, Producer and Label Head by profession. Im originally from Toronto, Canada. Though I did not come from an extensive music background per say, I was greatly influenced by music growing up. Every family member who I grew up with not only listened to a lot of music but they all listened to different types of music. I had an older brother who loved a lot of 90's hip hop, and older sister who liked 80's R&B and parents who loved 60's and 70's soul, and I was lucky enough to be the little kid soaking up all of these different styles of music. By the time I was old enough it felt very natural to make music because i found it so easy. I've been writing and producing hip hop for the past 5 years now and i have had pretty good success thus far in Canada and other countries around the world. Im now at the point where Im taking my talent to the grandest level and exposing it to millions of people worldwide.

KWJ: How long have you rapping? When did you know it was something that you wanted to do?

George: I've been jotting down lyrics since I was about 12 but it wasn't until much later did I decide that It was something that I wanted to do for a living. I was an avid basketball player growing up and it was around the time when I realized that the D1 scholarship and a future NBA career was probably not going to happen when I started to take my skill as a Hip Hop writer seriously.

KWJ: How did you go about building your career?

George: Its definitely been an extensive process. I started off releasing albums that I had written and produced myself and selling them out of my trunk. As soon as I started making some good money I took my music to New York City hoping to get some real recognition and some real money. After getting to New York, My business partner Marco Capo and I met Gary Salzman who mentored us on how to create a successful record label and a successful artist. I feel like im just at the parking garage right now tho. Ill forever be building until im scrapping the sky!!!!!

KWJ: Are there any artists that have influenced you?

George: Ya, I got a few. Its hard to say any one artist for any one reason tho. Because I change so much as an artist over time, the influences that I draw inspiration from continually changes. There was a point when Mobb Deep influenced my music more than any other artist, then there was Jay-Z, then there was Outkast, and so on and so forth. Today Im greatly influenced by the bigger pop producers and artists out there. I love what Kanye West is doing right now and Kid Cudi is really cool to me as well.

KWJ: Tell us about your track “Rollin”.

George: Rollin is an interesting record. It started off as a record that we never thought might be our main single but it kinda took a life of its own once we released it. The original concept was about girls feeling euphoria in the club. We wanted to create a fun record that both guys and girls could relate to and thats exactly how it came out. Hopefully this will be a record that will be played in clubs around the world for years to come.

KWJ: What artists have you worked with, or currently working with?

George: I've been an artist who hasn't really feature a lot of other artist. I've never been a fan of throwing artists on songs just for the name or the notoriety.

KWJ: What are some of the producers that you are working with right now?

George: Im currently working with Mass Ave which is a production house based in different regions of the U.S. They got some really hot material out there right now. Yall try to check out the song Deep N Luv from the new pop artist Sariah that Mass Ave produced for her. Im also working with Michael Grant from Massachusetts, and the Ruff Loaderz from the UK.

KWJ: Do you have a set date for your album to come out?

George: We're currently working on scheduling the right release date for my album. As of right now its looking like a summer '11 release but it all depends on how well '10 goes. Keep an eye and ear out for me tho. Ill be releasing some hot new records through out this year so stay.
